Confidentiality

Counselling and Clinical Supervision are private conversations, meaning that the information shared in
the therapy room, stays in the therapy room. We keep a written record of the session, which we keep in
a locked file cabinet, in a locked file room, in our double-locked office. The only ways in which
information leaves our session is if:

  • You give me written permission to speak with a specific person;
  • A funder requires a report – and we will review the content of the report together;
  • Consultation with other professionals involved, with your verbal or written consent;
  • For the purposes of Clinical Supervision- for which I will request your permission;
  • Situations where there is an identifiable risk of harm to yourself, to another, or to protect an
    identifiable child;
  • Compliance with a court order;
  • Any other legal requirements.

Consent is an ongoing conversation

Confidentiality with child and youth clients:

  • We will maintain the child or youth’s confidentiality as above and involve their parents as needed and as the child or youth consents.  We will keep safety in mind as we walk together and attempt to include caregivers whenever possible for support.
  • Confidentiality between marital and/or family clients:
  • We will sometimes meet with different parts of a family or couple to support therapeutic movement.  At the end of the separate session, we will discuss what we will bring back to the other family member(s) to continue to move the therapy along its path.
